Stephanie Wang-Breal

A first-generation Chinese American from Youngstown, Ohio, Stephanie uses film and video to subvert the narrative. Her approach hinges on intimacy of access — of being an outsider who is invited in. After graduating from Northwestern University, Stephanie worked on commercials and promos for MTV and UNICEF.  Fluent in Mandarin and French, she's resided all over the world from Taipei to London and Paris. In 2010, she directed her first feature length documentary, Wo Ai Ni Mommy, which went on to win 3 Grand Jury Best Doc Awards at film festivals across the country and garnered an Emmy nomination. She has since directed two other feature films: Tough Love and Blowin' Up, which just had its World Premiere at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival. Stephanie's films have been supported by the Sundance Institute and the Ford Foundation.

When she's not out in the field doing her immersive doc work, Stephanie collaborates with such talent and brands such as Tan Dun, Facebook, Minxwax, ESPN, Tiffany's & Co., Apple and Vocativ Media.
